Cardiovascular Molecular Imaging: Cell Therapy

چکیده
Dara L Kraitchman, VMD, PhD Johns Hopkins University Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science Baltimore, MD 21287 USA Introduction: Cardiovascular cell therapy trials, which were initiated over a decade ago using skeletal myoblasts,[1] are primarily targeted at adult stem cell lines. Initial trials with a limited number of patients have shown the safety of various cell lines and delivery routes, but they have largely failed to demonstrate efficacy in rebuilding the failing heart. [2-7] In addition, trials using similar administration routes or cell lines have shown vastly different results. While preclinical studies in a variety of species have demonstrated dramatic improvements in cardiac function, clinical results have failed to replicate these findings. Stem cell labeling may offer a method to better understand from a mechanistic point-of-view the role that stem cells are playing in cardiac repair to help design better cell therapy products as well as clinical trials.

متن کاملI-55: Molecular Imaging Overview
Molecular imaging is the noninvasive visualization of normal as well as abnormal cellular processes at a molecular or genetic level of function. It is used to provide characterization and measurement of biological processes in living animals and humans (in vivo). The discipline of molecular imaging evolved rapidly over the past decade through the integration of cell biology, molecular biology a...
متن کاملDetermination of normal ranges of regional and global phase parameters using gated myocardial perfusion imaging with Cedars-Sinai’s QGS software
Introduction: Myocardial perfusion imaging using gated SPECT and phase analysis is an effective tool in evaluation of mechanical dyssynchrony. The purpose of this study was to determine the normal ranges of global and regional phase parameters. Methods: A total of 100 patients with normal resting and stress electrocardiograms, low pretest likelihood for c...
متن کاملCell Therapy in Cardiovascular Disease
Recently, cell therapy has sparked a revolution in ischemic heart disease that will in the future help clinicians to cure patients. Earlier investigations in animal models and clinical trials have suggested that positive paracrine effects such as neoangiogenesis and anti-apoptotic can improve myocardial function. In this regard the Royan cell therapy center designed a few trials in collaborat...
